VILLANOSHOT

Mar 28, 2008 in Big 5

Or do they? Vegas sure doesn’t think so looking at the twelve point spread. I almost want to take Nova just because it’s so many points but then i think about Kansas ramming the ball down Nova’s throat all night and I get scared. It’s crazy….I really feel like the only way Nova wins this game is if they shoot 70% from the floor all night. Either that or Kansas needs to completely shit the bed. Or both. The scary thing about this game is that if Nova can pull the upset, who knows how far they can go. I don’t fear Wisconsin or Davidson, and who knows if they’d face a familiar Louisville team in the Final Four. OH MY GOD NOVA IS WINNING IT ALL.

Tonight’s City of Pain LOCKS. Feel free to bet a lot of money on these games because we know what we’re talking about. No really.

Wisconsin -4.5, Texas -2, Villanova/Kansas Over 144

Reach Out and Touch Faith

those crafty augustians have done it again. with their reflective crossing guard uniforms (seriously jay wright, does nike know something about you?), villanova has advanced in the ncaa tourney to face the juggernaut siena saints, a franciscan school. you know what happens when two catholic schools get together, don’t you?

oral. lots of oral.

And Then There Were Two…

so temple is out. the joe and the nova live on. as an equal opportunity fan of the big 6, i mistaken picked all three philly teams to advance one round. why the hell not i suppose?

the interesting thing is that i can see us in a similar place come late february next year…unless of course villanova gets its head out of its ass. then everything might be ok.

and while fran dunphy does have a great mustache, i do miss the raspy nonsense of coach chaney and moments like these:

The Big Zero

The Hawk Gets Ready for the NIT

In more pathetic Philadelphia sporting news, our desolate city is on the brink of a historical season in college basketball. Touched on briefly in the Philadelphia Daily News today, there is about a 90% chance that there will be zero Philadelphia teams in the NCAA Tournament this year. Think about that for a second. No Big 5 teams, no Drexel…jesus even no Delaware. When was the last time this happened? Over 30 years ago. It’s disgraceful. Unless St. Joe’s, Temple, or even La Salle can dethrone Xavier in the A-10 Tournament, this travesty will become reality.

How far has this city fallen? Villanova needs a miracle to make it (a Big East championship). There is about as much chance of that happening as there is Donovan McNabb not gaining ten more pounds this week. Temple, La Salle, and St. Joe’s could play deep into the A-10 tourney but a championship is still unlikely considering how well Xavier is playing. Drexel has AIDS this year and won’t be playing for anything, and Penn would get beaten by a high school girls JV team at this point. This once proud city has nothing to cheer for yet again. We need a miracle. Oh wait, miracles don’t happen here.

Villanova Season Preview

After watching the Syracuse – St Joe’s battle the other night, I thought about doing a Big 5 season preview. Yea, can you believe it? No, really I’m not joking. The problem is that the Big 5 isn’t a real conference, it screws Drexel out of the equation when they should absolutely be included in it, and there are basically two decent teams (Villanova and St. Joe’s), and three teams that should locate Marty McFly and his DeLorean so they can travel back to the 1950s and remember when they used to be good (Penn, Temple, La Salle). Ok that was a little harsh on Temple…sorry Owls fans. I thought about the history, the pageantry, the rivalries, the…..lack of real competition over the past, oh I don’t know, TWENTY YEARS. I mean don’t get me wrong, I’ll be attending some Big 5 games this season and thoroughly enjoying them, but we live in an era ruled by the major conferences and prime time television. Previewing the Big 5 this season is about as relevant as paging through Consumer Reports and comparing value and pricing on new VCRs. I’m not even sure if people in Philadelphia care that much about it anymore. Anyway, in case you were wondering, I like Villanova to win the imaginary Big 5 title. Which brings us to…….(drum roll), your City of Pain Villanova Wildcats Season Preview!! It doesn’t get much better than this folks. Only finger painting, making sand castles, children’s laughter, running topless on a summer evening through a wheat field in the American Mid-West, and watching bestiality porn can top this.
