A Man Who Knows Pain
Nov 08, 2007 in Phillies

so i was getting ready for bed, and I get a text, “who did we trade for lidge.” my first thought was, “uh-oh” and my second thought was “please god, not michael bourn.” but the more i read this morning from place like rotoworld and jerry crasnick on espn, it seems like a good idea. myers would be a top three starter in this year’s free agent crop, lidge is likely better and cheaper than any available reliever, and michael bourn is very much an unknown quantity whose best role may be the one he had with the phils.
the other interesting thing is who brad lidge is and what he’s been through. he’s been dragged through the streets and hanged from the highest tree in houston for serving up that homer to pooholes in the 2005 nlcs. the man knows pain. the man is looking for a second chance. this is a city looking for its second chance. this is a city that knows pain. it sounds like a good fit.
we still need some bullpen help. a starter not named adam eaton would still be nice. if we don’t get bench speed like bourn, we’re stupid. and we could use an upgrade at third. seriously.
but remember, as the rest of the baseball world knew and now we get our first crack at it, anytime you make a trade with ed wade, you’re pretty much guaranteed to get the better of it. thanks, trader ed!
