so what do i think of the sixers three games into the season? well, they try hard. they hustle. they rebound. they get to the line. but if you look at some of the stats that could predict success, there’s some interesting trends (or lack there of)…

toronto: won RB, lost %s, lost TO, won FTA

chicago: won RB, won %s, lost TO, won FTA

jersey: lost RB, lost %s, won TO, won FTA

Getting the stripe more, which shows a nice aggressiveness, hasn’t made a difference. winning the rebounding battle is always nice. but it’s really field goal shooting and field goal defense which makes the difference. This is sort of obvious, but it does get at the reason why this sixers team is going to be frustrating to watch: they don’t shoot well consistently and they can’t concentrate on defense for the entire 48 minutes.

other weird observations:

  • they’ve also won every fourth quarter. they’ve been beaten in every second quarter and had two dogs of a third quarter (only the bulls game was a win).
  • the last five minutes of the raptors game was: miller, green, korver, iggy and sammy/reggie. the last five minutes of the bulls game was: miller, green, korver, iggy and sammy. the last five minutes of the nets game was: miller, williams, korver, iggy and sammy. i think reggie evans at the end of the game stands out like a mormon coke dealer in north philly.
  • why does iggy not get a shot off in the last 4:30 of the nets game? sammy getting to the line is great and all, but going one for two every time at the stripe does the team no good. let’s not “take what they give us” because, well, it’s what they want us to do. you don’t think the 12 year old ginger coaching the nets wanted the haitian sensation flailing around in there instead of iggy driving by richard jefferson or korver running vince carter silly around screens?
  • andre miller has never won a playoff series. andre miller has always played on relatively bad teams. andre miller makes this team look really good sometimes. but how much scarier is louis williams for the other team? and why is it that against the raptors and nets, miller was a – and williams was a +? is it who they’re playing against (like how andre miller was getting clowned by tj ford) or who they are? time will tell i guess.

with home games against charlotte, toronto and new orleans this week, we’ll see how they do. not to keep hating on andre miller, but he’s going to have his work cut out for him with felton, ford and paul…
